Uzbekistan Ramps Up Efforts to Attract Tourists: New Incentives, Credit Line, and Unified Platform

At the behest of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan is developing a comprehensive program to stimulate inbound tourism. The package of measures includes a range of incentives for businesses in the tourism sector, as well as the allocation of funds for infrastructure development and the promotion of the national tourism brand.

Key Points of the Program:

  • Business Incentives:
    • Exemption from customs duties on the import of buses and minibuses.
    • Reimbursement of 50% of the expenses of tour operators and craftsmen for participation in international fairs.
    • A 50% reduction in profit tax for entrepreneurs organizing business events with the participation of foreign guests.
  • Financial Support:
    • The Reconstruction and Development Fund will provide a credit line of US$50 million to provide tourism organizations with working capital. Loans will be issued in national currency at an annual interest rate of 17% for a period of 10 years with a two-year grace period.
  • Infrastructure Development:
    • New facilities will be built in regions with high tourism potential based on master plans.
    • 100 billion soums will be allocated from the state budget in 2024 to improve the infrastructure of these regions.
    • Investments of US$50 million will be attracted to each of these regions.
  • Creating a National Tourism Brand:
    • Content will be created about Uzbekistan’s tourism offerings to be promoted in international media and on social platforms, global sporting and cultural events.
    • Foreign journalists, bloggers, and influencers with large audiences will be engaged to draw attention to Uzbekistan.
  • Convenience for Tourists:
    • A unified online platform will be launched where you can find information about all air, rail, and bus routes, as well as purchase tickets at least six months before the trip.
    • Flight information will be regularly published in the media and on social networks.
  • Training of Personnel:
    • Educational programs in tourism and hospitality have been improved based on the experience of leading world universities.
    • The duration of higher education in the field of tourism has been reduced from 4 to 3 years.
    • Students will be able to combine their studies with work in their specialty, developing professional skills on the job.
    • Guide training courses have been organized at the Andijan, Bukhara, Samarkand, and Urgench State Universities of Oriental Studies, World Languages, and the Silk Road.

The implementation of these measures is expected to significantly increase the flow of foreign tourists to Uzbekistan, as well as improve the quality of tourism services in the country.
