Outdoor fetes devoted to flowers (Boychechak sayli, lola sayli, sumbula sayli, gul bayrami)
From ancient times many festivals and celebrations devoted to flowers are known. In number of such festivals there are: festival of snowdrop, festival of tulip, festival of sumbula. All this festivals are celebrated in the countryside, in of nature. During these events work moving bazars, trade rows, where one can buy food, tea, bread, sweets. Usualy men and women spend their time separately.
The celebrations devoted to the heralds of spring snowdrops, tulips are conducted even nowadays in Chust, Yangikurgan, Kasansay and Tupraqkurgan. Firstly the children give the flowers to the old people. It symbolizes the end of the winter and the beginning of new life. Children in areas near Namangan pick the flowers and walk through whole kishlak singing following songs:
Boka-boka boy, boy tilla,
Uyingizga tosh tilla,
Xudoyim o'g'il bersin,
Kattasini oti Rahmatilla,
Kichigini oti Ismatilla
The hosts of the houses reply:
"Omonlik-omonlik, hech ko'rmaylik yomonlik, yanagi yil shu kunlarga eson-omon etaylik",- and give the children different fruits and sweets.
These traditions symbolize the duration of life and the circular of time. One of the celebrations which is very similar to Snowdrop festival is "Sunbula sayli" the festival of sunbula. It is celebrated only in region of Chust. This celebration is based on Islamic view and is conducted in early spring. It begins from the sacred place devoted to Hoja Abdurahmon ibn Avf, and is concluded in Sunbul gorge. The importance of this event grew in 80 years of XX century. The main event is held in May. Peasants, handicrafts, cattle-breeders, and sellers take a part in this event.
These celebrations and spring festivals are based on ancient philosophical views of our ancestors to natural phenomenon.
One of the festivals which transformed and reached our days is the festival of flowers. This festival is celebrated from 60 years of last century in Namangan. The participants of that festival were florists from nearer towns and settlements, and the event illustrated by mass media. There were summons to decorate streets and houses with flowers.
This celebration is now has become a good tradition and usually held in second half of August during 2 days Saturday and Sunday. The event is held in parks, where photo exhibitions of florists are organized, debates of florists are held and advises to young florists are given.
The festival of flowers doesnt only give esthetic pleasure to the people, but is also a mean of improving appearance of the city and ecological environment. So the preparations for the event begins in 1-2 weeks, in this time the streets are get cleaned.
