Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia OASIS ON THE GREAT SILK ROAD Location : Kyrgyzstan is a small mountainous country in the center of Central Asia occupying the 195,5 thousand square km. It borders on Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan and China. Mountains occupy about 90% of the territory. Capital: Bishkek (former Frunze), about 1,000,000 inhabitants. Bishkek is situated at the foothills of the Kyrgyz Ala Too mountain range in the center of the Chu valley, 250 km away from Almaty and 600 km away from Tashkent.
