CELEBRATION OF PUTTING A CHILD INTO CRADLE
During this celebration the mother, who has given a birth to a child, bites off a little edge of bread and hands it over to small children to take away. At some distance from the cradle, different dried fruits are scattered on a verandah. It has the following symbolic meaning: let the newborn live long and in prosperity, find his daily bread scattered throughout his life. The women, who are married twice or divorced, are not allowed to put a child into cradle. Twig of the hawthorn, which is considered as sacred, is hung up on the cradle. Knife and piece of bread are put under pillow of the child. Peganum is burned, the smell of which has both medical application and religious protection against evil spirits. Besides, some type of amulets can be attached to the cradle.
