Ashgabat – Mary

Drive to Mary by road. It is 355 km and takes 5-6 hours drive.

En route we’ll visit the ruined mosque of Seytdjemal-et-Din (XV c) located in Annau 11 km from the capital and ruined Caravan Saray of Abiverd (XX bc-XVI ad) 135 km,  Abiverd was once an important trading town of North Khorasan. It was a key link on the Silk Route between Nisa and Merv, and also enjoyed ties with Nishapur, across the Kopet Dag Mountains to the south. Taxes collected from Abiverd at one point in the 9th century were almost double those of Serakhs. But Abiverd never seems to have recovered its status following its sacking by the Mongols in 1221.).
Upon arrival in Mary,proceed to visit Old Merw ruins-open air museum (VI-VII )-Unesco World Heritage Site.
